How to Care for Your 3D Printed Homewares

A practical care guide for your Noctis Studio 3D printed homewares - covering cleaning, sunlight, moisture, and long-term care tips.

Your Noctis Studio homewares are designed to be as functional as they are beautiful. 3D printed pieces have their own unique characteristics - and with a little care, they'll stay looking sharp for years. Here's everything you need to know.

What Are Your Homewares Made From?

Our homewares are 3D printed using high-quality PLA or PLA+ filament - a plant-based, biodegradable material that's rigid, smooth, and excellent for detailed forms. It's durable for everyday indoor use, but like all materials, it has a few things to keep in mind.

Cleaning Your Pieces

General Dusting

For day-to-day maintenance, a soft dry cloth or a gentle brush is all you need. This is the safest and most effective way to keep your pieces looking their best without any risk of damage.

Light Cleaning

If your piece needs a deeper clean, use a slightly damp cloth with cool water. Wipe gently and dry immediately - don't leave moisture sitting on the surface. Avoid soaking or submerging any piece.

What to Avoid

  • Harsh chemicals or solvents - these can cloud or warp the surface finish.
  • Abrasive cloths or scourers - these will scratch the print layers.
  • Dishwashers - the heat and water pressure will warp and damage your piece.
  • Prolonged soaking - even water-resistant pieces aren't designed for submersion.

Vases - A Note on Water

Our Vases are designed for dried or artificial florals rather than fresh flowers in water. While the exterior is robust, prolonged contact with water on the interior can affect the material over time. For fresh flowers, we recommend using a glass or plastic liner insert inside the vase.

Plant Pots - Drainage and Moisture

Our Plant Pots are best suited to plants that don't require frequent watering - succulents, cacti, and air plants are ideal. If you're potting a plant that needs regular water, use a nursery pot inside and treat the printed pot as a decorative sleeve. This protects the material and keeps your plant happy.

Bowls and Display Pieces

Our Bowls are perfect for holding crystals, jewellery, keys, or other small objects. They're not designed for food, liquids, or outdoor use. Keep them on a stable surface away from edges - while durable, a hard drop onto tile or concrete can chip the print layers.

Display Stands

Our Display Stands are engineered to hold and showcase your crystal specimens securely. When placing a crystal, lower it gently into position rather than pressing down with force. For heavier specimens, check that the stand feels stable before leaving it unattended on a shelf.

Sunlight and Heat

PLA is sensitive to sustained high heat. Keep your pieces out of direct sunlight for extended periods - particularly in warm climates - as this can cause warping or softening over time. A shaded shelf or display cabinet is ideal. Avoid placing pieces near heaters, ovens, or in cars on hot days.

Long-Term Care Tips

  • Dust regularly to prevent buildup in the print texture.
  • Keep away from direct heat sources and prolonged sun exposure.
  • Use a liner for any piece that will hold water or soil.
  • Handle with clean, dry hands - natural oils can dull the surface over time.
  • Store carefully if not on display - wrap in a soft cloth to protect the finish.

Pairing Your Homewares with Crystals

Our homewares are designed with crystals in mind. A Bowl makes a beautiful home for a collection of Tumble Stones, while our Display Stands are perfect for showcasing Specimens, Clusters, or Geodes. Browse our New Arrivals to see the latest additions to both ranges.
